Alder Ave., Granite Falls to climb into the van and tour several schools for a firsthand look. You are also invited to an optional debrief with refreshments immediately following the tour to view architectural plans of upcoming projects, including the STEAM building, safety and security upgrades, and the high school grandstand. DRAMA PERFORMANCE- MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING– A Granite Falls High School Production.
The Granite Falls School District will hold Spring Break during the week of April 2-6, 2018. there are several high school sporting events taking place during this time if you are around the Granite Falls area during the break. Please contact the high school at 360-691-7713 for details on times and days.
GFHS Classification Change
Granite Falls High School will play as a 1A classification for the 2018-2019 school year. The adjustment is to promote a more competitive competition based on the equitable distribution in the number of schools. With encouragement from the community and school board members the district made an appeal to WIAA to change our classification from a 2A to 1A. This appeal was based on declining enrollment. The hearing was held on January 28th and the appeal was granted.
Alumni Hall of Fame Winners
Congratulations to Ulrich “Babe” Scherrer (Class of 1936), John Scherrer (Class of 1962), and Kim (Schaffer) Hills (Class of 1990) for being selected as the 2017-2018 Alumni Hall of Fame Winners.
Conferences are coming up at the end of March. If you have a child in elementary school or high school, this is an opportunity to visit with your child’s teacher! If you have a child that attends Crossroads High School, come watch your child lead a presentation of some of their best work! This is a great opportunity to track your child’s progress and learn how to build on current successes. The middle school will be doing things a little different this year for conferences. Battle of the Classes- Saturday, March 24 @ 7pm
The Battle of the Classes main event has been rescheduled for March 24, 2018 at 7:00 pm in the high school gym. Come out and support your favorite graduating class.
Update: GFHS- 8th Grade Registration, Orientation & Curriculum Night
Eighth graders, who will be freshman next year, are invited to attend the Registration, Orientation & Curriculum Night scheduled for Thursday, March 15, 2018 at 6:00pm. Topics that will be covered include: Graduation Requirements, Community Service, High School & Beyond Plan, State Testing Requirements, College Credit Opportunities, Post High School Opportunities, Registration Process/Schedules, Academic Support, Campus Tours and the opportunity to talk with high school teachers regarding class offerings, curriculum and expectations. Mark your calendars for March 15th at 6:00pm!
The 6th Annual Granite’s Got Talent Event
The talent show will be this Saturday, March 11, at 6:00 pm, held at the High School Performing Arts Center (PAC). The event showcases talented singers, dancers and musicians from the community of Granite Falls. Cost of admission is $7 for adults, $5 for senior citizens, $3 for students K-12, and Preschool gets in for free! All proceeds go to the Granite Falls Education Foundation which is a nonprofit organization established to promote education within the community of Granite Falls. Don’t miss out on this fun evening of entertainment!

Due to weather conditions up the Mountain Loop Highway, routes 19, 29, 30, 31, and 14 will be on snow routes for today, Tuesday, February 27, 2018. All other routes are running normal, however please use caution as there may be icy patches on the roads.

Due to weather conditions this morning, all schools are CLOSED for today, February 26. All after school events and athletics are cancelled. If you haven’t done so already, please register with our FlashAlert system to receive important updates via email or text message. This allows you to be notified at the same time as local radio and TV stations. Due to weather conditions this afternoon, all bus routes will be running on limited bus transportation. All schools will release on time and buses will drop off at snow route locations. Due to weather conditions, all schools tomorrow, February 20th, are on snow routes but school will start on time. That means most children will need to walk to the main road for school bus pick-up. Specific roads for snow routes are listed on the transportation page on the district website, but if you are unsure if the bus will travel on your road, it’s best to send your child to the main road. Students attending Crossroads High School who live in the Lake Stevens School District will be running on a two hour late start schedule. Bus transportation will be provided two hours late for those students only. Thank you and travel safely tomorrow.
There will be no Literacy Night at Monte Cristo Elementary on Monday, February 19. Schools will be closed in Observance of President’s Day.
With the Special Election on February 13, remember to vote! Are you new to Granite Falls? Have you recently moved? Your vote counts! Register today and vote. You can register to vote at any school, the district office or any public library. Citizens may also register to vote online HERE.
School Board Study Session
The Granite Falls School Board will be having a study session on February 14th at 6pm to allow open discussion on Bullying. The meeting will be held in the Pilchuck Room at the Administrative Office located at: 205 N Alder Ave, Granite Falls, WA 98252. Band Night this Friday!!
Come out and watch the band perform at the basketball games this Friday at the Granite Falls High School gymnasium. The band consists of grades 5th-12th graders who join together for this wonderful event. Band Night gives all students in the Granite Falls Band Program the special opportunity to come together and celebrate a fun night of new friends and music making. Cost to get into the event is $6-adults, $3- children grades K-6, and students with high school ASB get in for free! We hope to see you there!
ECEAP Preschool Schedule Change

Corrections to the January Newsletter:
– January 17th (not Jan.18) Success in Education Award Winners will be honored at the School Board Meeting. Ceremony will be held in the Crossroads Commons.
– No Drama Performance on January 18th. The next drama performance is scheduled for April 12, 13, & 14.
The district is running the community survey from Mid-November to Mid-December. We are trying to get as much feedback as possible from parents, students, and staff. Please take a moment to complete the survey by going here. There will be chromebooks set up at each school during conference week to assist in participation as well. We desire to hear your opinion and get your feedback on how we are doing as a district so that we can improve our services and learning opportunities to the children of our community.
November Board Meeting Cancelled
The second regular board meeting in November will be cancelled due to the board attending the Annual WSSDA conference being held in Bellevue, WA from November 16-19. The WSSDA Annual Conference is the premier annual event for school directors and superintendents. It is the largest gathering of education policy makers in the state of Washington.

The District announces its 1st quarter ‘Success in Education’ award winners! Congratulations to High School winners: Josiah Mace, Michaela Heuslein, Mickayla Lindquist and Taylor Middleton; Middle School winners: Makoto Kaburagi, Alyssa Johnson, & Jenny Gill; MCE winners: Jacob Hepworth, Blair Johnson & Nevaeh Sundin; MWE winners: Damien Reining & Julia Munn. The award represents students that show an understanding of the importance of education and provide a committed, excellent service to other students, staff members, or the community. Candidates were nominated by staff and selected by the school’s administrative team.
The district announces its 1st quarter certificated and classified staff ‘Success in Education’ awards. The employee award recognizes staff members for creating a thoughtful and exemplary learning environment through committed, excellent service to our schools. The 1st quarter certificated staff winner is: Shawn Bennison; Classified staff winner is: Curtis Sullivan. All candidates were nominated by staff and selected by the district’s administrative team. The winners were announced at the board meeting on November 1, 2017.
Parent-Teacher Conferences begin the week before Thanksgiving. A district-wide conference schedule is available HERE(there have been updates made for the late night dates at the elementary’s), or you may contact your child’s school directly for a schedule. The communication between home and school is very important to us. Family involvement that supports student learning at home is directly linked to improved student achievement. HS WINTER SPORTS BEGIN- NOVEMBER 13
GFHS Athletic Registration & Student Fees – We have exciting news regarding athletic registration and student fees! HS Athletic registration for the 2016-2017 school year will be completed using Skyward Family Access. COLLEGE & CAREER FAIR
College and Career Fair is coming up! Get a jump start on your future. On Tuesday, November 14, 2017, Granite Falls High School will be hosting the 2017 College and Career Fair. The event will take place from 6:00pm- 7:30pm at the high school. Invitations have been sent to 20 colleges & universities, 7 technical colleges, 4 military personnel and 10 resource agencies. In addition there will be a college planning information session at 6:00pm. We hope you can make it to this meaningful event.

Due to weather conditions this morning, transportation for bus 24 and bus 7 will be running a little late. Bus 22 will be replacing bus 7 and bus 30, up the Mountain Loop, will be running on limited bus transportation, stopping at the Ranger Station. Important Calendar Update:
There has been a change with the district calendar regarding the Athletic Sign-ups that were scheduled for tonight, August 24 from 5-7pm at the Granite Falls Middle School. There will be no athletic sign-ups for tonight. If you are interested in signing up for athletics please visit the middle school during normal office hours, which are from 7:00am -3:00pm and we will be glad to assist you.
